Early access for pharmacies in Nigeria

Sell it before it expires. Stock it before it runs out.

Medvigil tracks every medicine batch to its expiry date, forecasts demand at each branch and compares supplier prices. Each morning your team gets a short list of actions, ranked by the naira value at stake.

01

Batch-level expiry tracking

Every receipt is recorded by batch number and expiry date, per branch, so near-expiry stock is visible before it reaches the shelf edge.

02

Demand forecasts per branch

Weekly forecasts for each product at each location, using sales history, seasonality and recent trends.

03

Supplier price comparison

Prices pulled from supplier invoices are compared line by line, so every reorder shows the best recent quote.

04

A daily action queue

Transfers, returns, reorders and dispensing priorities, each with the reasoning and the naira value at stake.

The problem

Pharmacies lose money on stock they already paid for.

Expired medicines, emergency orders and overpaying a distributor rarely show up as one big loss. They show up as small, steady leaks across branches and invoices, and they are hard to see until the month closes.

A typical case: a branch receives 300 packs of an antimalarial in the dry season. Demand there stays low, while another branch nearby runs short and places an urgent order at a higher price. Three months later the first batch is close to expiry, and it is too late to return it.

  • Expiry is found too late

Most pharmacies check expiry dates during periodic shelf audits. By the time a short-dated batch is spotted, the supplier return window has usually closed and the stock becomes a write-off.

  • Ordering runs on memory

Reorders are often based on what ran out last week. Fast movers stock out during malaria season while slow movers pile up at another branch.

  • Prices move between invoices

Distributor prices shift often, and comparing quotes across paper and PDF invoices takes hours that pharmacy staff do not have.

  • Spreadsheets stop at one branch

A spreadsheet can track one store. Across four or ten branches, nobody can see that the batch expiring in Lekki is exactly what Ikeja needs.

The Medvigil approach

Track each batch, forecast each branch, and decide while there is still time to act.

  • Expiry risk measured in units and naira, not dates alone
  • Short-dated stock matched to the branch that will sell it
  • Reorders sized from forecasts and supplier lead times
  • Supplier prices compared from invoices you already receive

Core features

Six connected tools for one stock decision at a time.

Each feature does one job and passes its output to the next, from invoice receipt to an approved action on the shelf.

01 / 06

Batch & Expiry Ledger

A live register of every batch on hand, by branch, with days to expiry and projected unsold units.

Benefit

Teams see which packs will not sell in time while there is still a window to act.

In the workflow

Feeds Expiry Risk Forecasting and the action queue.

02 / 06

Expiry Risk Forecasting

Combines each batch's expiry date with its forecast sell-through to estimate how many units will be left when it expires, and what they are worth.

Benefit

Owners get one number for stock value at risk, broken down by month, branch and category.

In the workflow

Prioritises transfers, supplier returns and first-expiry-first-out dispensing.

03 / 06

Demand Forecasting & Reorder Points

Forecasts weekly demand per product and branch, then sets reorder points and order quantities from supplier lead times.

Benefit

Fewer stock-outs on fast movers and less cash tied up in slow ones.

In the workflow

Generates reorder recommendations for review.

04 / 06

Invoice Capture

Upload supplier invoices as PDFs or photos. Product names, batch numbers, expiry dates, quantities and prices are extracted, and low-confidence fields are flagged for a person to confirm.

Benefit

Receiving stock takes minutes instead of manual data entry, and batch data stays accurate.

In the workflow

Populates the ledger and the supplier price history.

05 / 06

Supplier Price Intelligence

Builds a price history for each product from captured invoices and highlights the lowest recent quote alongside each supplier's lead time and fill rate.

Benefit

Purchasing decisions weigh price and reliability together, without a separate spreadsheet.

In the workflow

Attached to every reorder recommendation.

06 / 06

Action Queue & Alerts

A ranked list of recommended actions with a plain-language explanation for each. Managers approve, assign or dismiss, and a daily digest goes out by email or SMS.

Benefit

Insight turns into a task with an owner, and every decision is logged.

In the workflow

Closes the loop: approved actions update stock records and the audit trail.

How it works

From a stock export to a decision in five steps.

Medvigil starts with data pharmacies already have: a stock export and the supplier invoices that arrive with every delivery.

  1. Step 1

    Connect your stock data

Import a product and stock export from your pharmacy or POS system as CSV, and upload supplier invoices as they arrive.

CSV import · PDF and photo invoices

  2. Step 2

    Validate and normalise

Product names are matched to a single catalogue, batch numbers and expiry dates are checked, and anything uncertain goes to a review list.

    Catalogue matching · confidence flags

  3. Step 3

    Forecast and score risk

Demand forecasts run for every product at every branch. Each batch gets a projected unsold quantity and a value at risk.

Per-branch forecasts · value at risk

  4. Step 4

    Recommend actions

The system proposes transfers, supplier returns, reorders and dispensing priorities, and explains each one in plain language.

    Ranked by naira impact

  5. Step 5

    Review, approve, act

Branch managers approve or dismiss recommendations. Approved actions are logged, and alerts go to the right person.

Approvals · audit trail · digests

Who it's for

Built for the people who order, receive and dispense medicines.

Medvigil is designed for pharmacy operations of different sizes, from a single community pharmacy to a distributor's warehouse.

Independent community pharmacies

The challenge
One or two locations, a pharmacist-owner doing the ordering, and expiry checks that happen when there is time.
How they use Medvigil
Upload invoices on receipt, check the action queue each morning, and reorder from the recommended supplier.
The result
Fewer write-offs and less time spent comparing distributor prices.

Multi-branch pharmacy chains

The challenge
Stock is spread across branches with different demand patterns, and head office cannot see batch-level detail.
How they use Medvigil
Head office reviews value at risk across all branches. Branch managers approve transfers between locations.
The result
Short-dated stock moves to where it sells, and central purchasing works from one forecast.

Hospital and clinic pharmacies

The challenge
High-value injectables and cold-chain items, irregular demand, and strict accountability for every unit.
How they use Medvigil
Track batches by store, forecast consumption from dispensing history, and keep an audit trail of every adjustment.
The result
Critical medicines stay available without overstocking expensive items.

Pharmaceutical distributors

The challenge
Large batch volumes, returns from retail customers, and expiry risk concentrated in a warehouse.
How they use Medvigil
Monitor expiry exposure by product line and plan allocation of short-dated batches to the customers most likely to sell them.
The result
Fewer returns and destructions, and clearer reporting for principals.

Technology

How We Use Amazon Web Services

Medvigil's platform is architected on AWS. Invoice capture runs on document extraction, batch and stock records sit in a managed relational database, and forecasting models are trained and served on managed machine learning infrastructure. Each stage of the pipeline below maps a Medvigil capability to the AWS service designed to carry it, so the platform can grow from one pharmacy to many branches without re-platforming.

  1. Stage 1

    Data Collection

    • Amazon S3
    • Amazon Textract

Stock exports and supplier invoices are uploaded and invoice fields are extracted.

  2. Stage 2

    Secure Storage

    • Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL
    • AWS KMS

Products, batches, branches and transactions are stored relationally and encrypted with managed keys.

  3. Stage 3

    Processing

    • AWS Lambda
    • Amazon EventBridge

Records are validated and normalised, and daily expiry scans and forecasts run on a schedule.

  4. Stage 4

    AI Intelligence

    • Amazon SageMaker AI
    • Amazon Bedrock

Demand forecasting models score each batch; a foundation model writes plain-language explanations.

  5. Stage 5

    Application Experience

    • AWS Amplify
    • Amazon Cognito
    • Amazon SES / SNS

The web app, user sign-in with branch roles, and email and SMS alerts.

AWS services and their purpose in Medvigil

Amazon S3: Stores uploaded stock exports, supplier invoice files and model training datasets.

Amazon Textract: Extracts product names, batch numbers, expiry dates, quantities and prices from supplier invoices, with a confidence score for each field.

AWS Lambda: Runs import validation, catalogue matching and the API handlers behind the web application, including the website's lead capture endpoint.

Amazon EventBridge: Schedules the daily expiry scan, the weekly forecast refresh and digest delivery.

Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL: Holds the relational inventory model: products, batches, branches, suppliers, stock movements and approvals.

Amazon SageMaker AI: Trains and hosts the demand forecasting models that produce per-branch weekly forecasts and sell-through estimates.

Amazon Bedrock: Generates the plain-language explanation attached to each recommendation and the weekly summary for managers.

Amazon Cognito: Manages user sign-in and role-based access so staff only see the branches they are responsible for.

Amazon SES: Sends daily digests and alert emails, and delivers early-access and contact enquiries from the website.

Amazon SNS: Sends SMS alerts for critical expiry and stock-out events to branch managers.

AWS Amplify: Builds and hosts the web application and this website, with HTTPS and global content delivery.

AWS KMS: Manages the encryption keys used for data at rest in Amazon S3 and Amazon RDS.
